What happens during a treatment?
At the first session a full consultation takes place, allowing the Reflexologist to gain an understanding of what the client is looking to gain from the treatment and what ailments, if any, they are looking to address.
The treatment itself takes place with the client reclining in a specially designed chair which raises the feet to a height suitable to be worked on.
The Reflexologist applies firm pressure to the feet, noting any areas of tenderness or 'crystals' - such areas being an indication of congestion or imbalance within the body. The whole foot is worked on, with special attention being paid to any ’imbalanced’ areas, with the aim of alleviating the congestion over a number of sessions, thus restoring the body back to health.
At the end of the session there is a short period of relaxation, to allow the client to come round, and when any relevant after care advice is given.
What should I wear?
As only the feet are worked upon, only the shoes and socks need be removed. However, as you will be lying back for around an hour, it is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing.
Will it tickle?
The pressure applied is firm, although it is adjusted to suit each client. As such the effect is not ticklish, nor should it hurt. Generally the experience is one of immense relaxation.
What is a ‘healing crisis’?
In a few instances where an imbalance has been found, the client may experience a temporary worsening of the condition, termed 'the healing crisis', prior to it’s improvement. This is normal and is an indication that the healing process is beginning.
