Reflexology - A Brief Overview
Reflexology is an ancient form of healing, dating back some 5000 years. It is a form of complementary therapy and is non-invasive. It is an holistic therapy and as such it looks at treating the person as a whole, and not just symptoms of disease.
It involves the application of pressure to the feet, or in some cases the hands, to reflex points which correspond to areas of the body.
The feet have a great many nerve endings in them and reflexology aims to help restore balance and energy flows in the body by stimulating and relieving congestion held within it.
Conditions suitable for treatment through reflexology:
Experience over many years has s hown reflexology to have beneficial effects when treating:
- headaches & migraines
- sinus problems
- hormonal imbalances
- breathing disorders such as asthma
- digestive problems, constipation and IBS
- circulatory problems
- back problems & sciatica
- tension and stress
Note, it can be used safely alongside conventional medicine, however it is often wise to notify your GP of any alternative forms of treatment you receive.
How can reflexology help you?
Following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of imbalance and vital energy pathways become blocked and prevent the body from functioning effectively.
Regular reflexology treatments can help to improve circulation, stimulate the immune system, cleanse the body of toxins, induce relaxation and promote a state of balance.
